Prior to 2011, taxpayers reported gains and losses from the sale or other disposition of
non-depreciable capital assets directly on Schedule D (Form 1040). Beginning in 2011,
Schedule D has been revised and new Form 8949, Sales and Other Dispositions of Capital
Assets, is now required to be filed along with Schedule D.
