HSA Family Coverage Contribution Limits

Posted on 10/10/2025 ← Back to TaxBert's Tax Talk
What is the maximum contribution to an HSA for someone with family coverage?

2024 HSA Family Coverage Limits:

For 2024, the maximum HSA contribution for family coverage is:

  • Under age 55: $8,300
  • Age 55 or older: $9,300 (includes $1,000 catch-up contribution) [1]

Important Considerations:

Note that these limits assume only one spouse has an HSA. If both spouses have HSAs and are age 55 or older, their combined family limit would be higher [2].

Catch-Up Contributions:

Individuals age 55 or older by the end of the tax year can make an additional catch-up contribution of $1,000, bringing their total family coverage limit to $9,300.
